Computational methods within structural acoustics, vibration and fluid-structure interaction are powerful tools for investigating acoustic and structural-acoustic problems in many sectors of industry; in the building industry regarding room acoustics, in the car industry and aeronautical industry for optimizing structural components with regard to vibrations characteristics etc. It also allows to implement input shaping in systems with non-constant sampling frequency. The principle of input shaping with an FD-FIR filter is illustrated in Fig. Here it is shown how the filter receives an input, x i, at discrete time step i, i.e. at time t in .
The occurrence of self-excited vibrations in engineering applications if often unwanted and in many cases difficult to model. Thinking of complex systems such as machines with many components and mechanical contacts, it is important to have guidelines for design so that the functionality is . Comparisons with previously proposed input shaper designs are presented to illustrate the qualities of the new input shaper design method. These new shapers will be shown to have better robustness under uncertainty in structural parameters and shorter shaper lengths for lightly damped systems. [S(00)]Cited by:
Method and apparatus for minimizing unwanted dynamics in a physical system response. Constraints on the input and on the unwanted dynamics are established, and an impulse sequence which satisfies the constraints is determined. The impulse sequence is convolved with an arbitrary command input to produce a shaped input which is used to drive physical system, thereby minimizing unwanted dynamics. The optimization model can include any structural changes which affect the stiffness and mass properties - and thus the dynamic response - of the structure. For the application presented in this paper, the thickness of the gearbox casing and the dimension of its stiffening ribs are selected as optimization design : Mladen Chargin, Gang Xie, Leo Dunne, Nobuhiro Hariu.

Actuator commands are convolved with an input shaping function to yield an equivalent shaped set of actuator commands. The shaped commands are designed to achieve the desired maneuver and minimize the residual structural vibrations.
Input shaping was extended for stepper motor actuators through this research. AnCited by: 6. Structural Dynamic Analysis focuses on evaluating vibration levels and stress. Limiting vibrations of structural members is important to control vibration of the equipment, vessels, and piping that are attached to it.
If a skid member has high vibrations then these File Size: KB. The good news is that risks from structural vibration can be mitigated if addressed properly at the design stage.

Input shaping is a method for reducing residual vibrations in computer controlled machines. Vibration is eliminated by convolving an input shaper, which is a sequence of impulses, with a desired system command to produce a shaped input.
The shaped input then becomes the command to the system. Another alternative control strategy that performs best when structural vibrations are low is input shaping, which has widely been used and investigated by researchers. This method is a form of feedforward control, in which a sequence of joint input commands are regenerated to perform some tasks, while minimizing the excitation of the flexible Cited by: 8.
Input shaping is an effective means for suppressing motion-induced residual vibration of lightly damped structures. Here, to demonstrate the ideas of various input shaping schemes for continuous structures, the model system of a cantilever beam, whose base is to be displaced by a prescribed distance, is considered.
The cantilever-beam motion is modeled by the damped Bernoulli Cited by: Input shaping theory. To understand how input shapers reduce oscillation, consider the impulse response of an undamped second-order harmonic oscillator: (1) y o (t) = ω n A o sin (ω n (t − t o)) ⋅ 1 (t − t o), where A o is the strength of the impulse, t o is the time the impulse is applied, ω n is the natural frequency of the system Cited by: Input shaping is a feedforward control technique for improving the settling time and positioning accuracy, while minimizing residual vibrations.
Shaped command profiles are generated by convolving a sequence of impulses. To design an input shaping controller, estimates of the system natural frequency and damping ratio are required.
However, real systems cannot be modeled exactly, making the Author: Çağlar Conker, Hakan Yavuz, Sadettin Kapucu, Mustafa Kaan Baltacioğlu, Hüseyi̇n Turan Arat, Alper Bu.
Many techniques have been applied over the years in order to minimize these residual vibrations. One such method is known as command shaping, which will construct the input profile so as to avoid exciting the natural frequencies of the system.
This work seeks to extend this by analyzing how the feedback controller interacts with the input : Nicholas L. Jacobs.
